If you're hoping to bring some life to the space between your kitchen sink and bay window, apothecary jars may be your answer. These jars are a great way to fill a space and show off seasonal items. Since apothecary jars are eclectic in nature, you can mix and match styles and sizes to reflect your unique style. This guide provides ideas to decorate jars for your kitchen's bay window for each season.

Fall Apothecary Jars

Fill apothecary jars with dry leaves, pinecones, and dried lentils or beans. You can also draw inspiration from fruit and vegetables that are in season from September to December. Some ideas include:

  • apples
  • miniature pumpkins
  • cranberries
  • dried corn cobs

To add a little more style, add miniature trinkets such as horseshoes, hay bales, and scarecrows.

Winter Apothecary Jars

As the season changes from fall to winter, transform your fall apothecary jars into a whimsical winter wonderland! Fake snow can be found at most craft stores and makes great jar filler. Another filler idea is whole coffee beans. In addition to providing a rustic charm, these beans add a pleasant aroma. As the season gets closer to Christmas, add one or more of the following:

  • candy canes
  • miniature ornaments
  • pinecones

To add more of a festive look, spray paint the pinecones with gold or silver spray paint.

Additionally, include special items from winter holidays that your family celebrates such as miniature fir trees set up in or around the apothecary jars to give your bay windows a more festive look.

Spring Apothecary Jars

As spring approaches, remove the winter or holiday items and fill the jars with faux birds' nests, faux birds, and/or resin eggs. Colorful silk flowers speak of spring as well, so go ahead and throw in a few of those.

If you're looking for a more earthy tone, moss and stones are a great way to add that touch. Try wrapping the jars with natural raffia to bring the decor outside the jar as well.

For an Easter touch add fluffy faux chicks, small stuffed bunnies and jellybeans. Refrain from adding chocolate or other items that may melt in the heat of day, due to the sun shining in the window.

Summer Apothecary Jars

Replace your springtime jar décor with tiny faux fruit for the summer. Throw in some tropical flowers such as orchids to complement the fruit.

If you're a beach lover, fill the bottom of the apothecary jars with colorful sand to begin the look. Then, insert any one or a combination of the following:

  • starfish
  • sand dollars
  • sharks teeth
  • shells
  • dried coral

Store the various items you're using until the appropriate season comes along, so you can reuse items that store well, such as faux fruit and pebbles. Since having a bay window is one of life's luxuries in the kitchen, bring attention to it by decorating it in style.
