When you first get windows installed in your house, it may seem like they are indestructible. They are thick, they have been engineered well and hopefully they will last you for years. But eventually, everything will need replacing, and in some cases, it can be hard to know if it is time to replace your windows. Here are a couple signs that it is time to replace or repair your windows.

1. There Is A Draft Coming From The Window

One sure sign that you have a problem is a drafty window. You might notice that in the winter the window is the coldest place to stand. In the summer you might feel hot from the area right by the window even when it is closed.

This problem could be caused by two things. First, the house may have shifted slightly, which would cause the window to not seal properly. If this is the case, you need to have someone come to repair and reset the window. Another reason is that the double pane is no longer sealed. This would require you replacing the window.

2. There Is Condensation Between The Panes

If you have double paned windows, you should be making sure that they are sealed properly. When the window is sealed properly, there should be no way that anything can get between the panes. They should be clean and free of any debris, condensation, or even bugs. If anything gets inside the panes, then you know you have a problem.

This problem would require that you get the window completely replaced.

3. The Window Is Hot Or Cold To The Touch

Before you get to the point where the window would be drafty, the window will slowly start to lose its ability to protect your house from the temperatures outside. You should periodically go through the house and touch the windows. If the windows are extremely cold in the winter and hot in the summer, then you might have a problem. It is normal to have a mild temperature change, but it shouldn't be a severe change so that inside the house and the window are completely different temperatures.

Although window repair and window replacement may seem like a large expense, you can actually save money in the long run. The reason is if your windows are not insulating your house properly, you will waste energy and pay more in your utility bills. That is why it is better to change them before the problem becomes severe.  For more information, contact a local window repair company like Distinctive Siding & Window
